Solution Focused Therapy

What is Solution Focused Therapy?

Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) is a goal-oriented, future-focused approach that helps you create meaningful change by building on what’s already working in your life.

Rather than exploring the deep roots of problems, SFT focuses on your strengths, resources, and preferred future — guiding you to find your own solutions and take steps toward them, often in just a few sessions.

How Does It Work?

Solution Focused Therapy is based on the idea that you already have the tools you need to overcome challenges — you just need support identifying and activating them.

Together, we will:

  • Clarify what you want to achieve in therapy
  • Explore times when the problem is less present
  • Identify existing strengths and resources
  • Set small, achievable goals
  • Build on successes to move you closer to your preferred outcome

What Makes SFT Unique?

  • It’s brief and focused — sometimes just a handful of sessions
  • It’s strength-based, not problem-focused
  • It encourages practical action and visible progress
  • It’s ideal for people who want fast, meaningful change
  • It emphasises hope, optimism, and capability

Rather than dwelling on why things are difficult, SFT asks:

“What’s going well, and how can we do more of it?”

What Can Solution Focused Therapy Help With?

SFT is helpful for a wide range of issues, including:

  • Stress and burnout
  • Decision-making or life transitions
  • Confidence and self-esteem
  • Work or performance challenges
  • Parenting or relationship struggles
  • Procrastination and motivation blocks
  • Building clarity and direction

It’s also useful for people who may not feel ready to delve deeply into past experiences, but still want to make positive changes now.

My Approach to SFT

As your therapist, I’ll offer a collaborative and optimistic space where we focus on your goals — not your flaws. My role is to ask the right questions, reflect your strengths, and help you uncover the next step forward.

Together, we’ll find out what works for you and build a plan around it.
